What sound did dinosaurs make? Yes, they belched and made other rude body sounds but they most likely vocalized too. All living relatives of dinosaurs hiss and growl; dinosaurs probably did too. Some living relatives of dinosaurs, the birds, are well known for a great variety of vocalizations. Some dinosaurs may have been versatile vocalizers.
Vocalization requires a vocal organ (such as vocal cords) and a resonating chamber (such as our mouth, nose and sinuses). Air from the lungs passes through the vocal organ (unknown location) which sets the air vibrating, and on to a resonating chamber which adds richness to the "voice." Parasaurolophus has an amazing resonating chamber; a giant crest. Its nasal passages extended from its nose and resembled a trombone.
